You Are Always Mine

Jeremiah 32:37-38, 40-41
All throughout the Bible from the beginning to the end, God conveys the same message: “I will be your God, and you will be my people”.
It was the same message to the Israelites, to our forefathers in the faith, all the way to us today. Even to a people who have forgotten and not known Him (Exodus 3), God’s posture was to ‘watch out for them’, ‘to redeem them’, ‘to bring them back to His side’. The intensity of His love and passion for His people, for us, has never wavered. He lives to bless us!
In His expression of love, He instructed Aaron to bless His people. He wanted them to clearly know that:
“The Lord bless you, and keep you [protect you, sustain you and guard you];
The Lord make His face shine upon you [with favour],
And be gracious to you [surrounding you with loving kindness];
The Lord lift up His countenance (face) upon you [with divine approval],
And give you peace [a tranquil heart and life].”
(Numbers 6:24-26 AMP)
I am moved by God’s unflinching attention and undivided devotion to bless me. In good or bad times, health or sickness, prosperity or calamity…He seeks to protect, sustain, guard, favour, surround me with His loving kindness, place his stamp of divine approval on me, and give me a tranquil heart. Not a moment of disapproval, rejection or disdain. His love ALWAYS protects, ALWAYS trusts, ALWAYS hopes, ALWAYS perseveres (1 Corinthians 13:7).
I am reminded of the time when I first held my firstborn in my arms…how I tenderly cradled him and prayed over him with all the love I had within me. I had a similar sense of hope, love, vision and purpose for him. I committed in my heart that I would always protect, trust, hope and persevere with him. In that joyous, miraculous moment of celebrating a new life, I would give up all my energy and resources to bless him, to protect him, to love him unconditionally…
But reality kicked in. I soon realised that it was not as easy to love and embrace another human being, even if that being came from my DNA and used to be a bundle of cuteness! In my sinfulness and weakness, all my noble intentions were sometimes disregarded and replaced with disbelief, disconnection, disappointment, and even anger. My intention to bless can become a temptation to curse.
I am eternally grateful for the loving Father I have in God, who not only is perfect in His love for me, but models for me the kind of parent I can be for my child. He is the amazingly loving God that I know my family can wholeheartedly seek. Even when we may fail one another, as human beings sometimes do, God will never fail. He will always be our God and we will always be His people!
