The Mustard Seed
Did you know that the mustard seed is one of the smallest seeds in the world? It is even smaller than an ant! Well, it can grow to become a very big tree, just like God’s kingdom!
Then Jesus asked, “What is the kingdom of God like? What shall I compare it to? It is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his garden. It grew and became a tree, and the birds perched in its branches.” (Luke 13:18-19)
Jesus compared the kingdom of God to the mustard seed. It starts off as a tiny seed, but when it grows, it becomes one of the tallest of all trees. Birds come to perch in its branches. Similarly, although God’s church seems very small in the beginning, it will grow up eventually and fill the earth!
Christians who grow in the Lord Jesus Christ will shine for God's glory. We will shine like lights in the night sky, guiding others to what is right.
"And the apostles said to the Lord, "Increase our faith." So the Lord said, "If you have faith as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, 'Be pulled up by the roots and be planted in the sea,' and it would obey you." (Luke 17:5-6)
Faith is simply believing in God. Even if we can't see anything happening the way we wish it would. Maybe it’s not supposed to happen just yet! Just a little amount of faith, as small as a mustard seed, Jesus said, is enough to cause trees and mountains to move at our word!
As it says in Matthew 13:23,
“But the seed falling on good soil refers to someone who hears the word and understands it. This is the one who produces a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown.”
This shows that the mustard seed can grow more than 100 times its seed size! If we believe in God, He can help us have a lot of faith.
What I’ve learned from the mustard seed:
I feel amazed by the mustard seed. I also learnt that God only needs me to put a little faith in Him, and He can work big miracles through me.
